Osijek's Philanthropy Timeline

Osijek

For Community Foundation Slagalica, local philanthropy is an important part of sustainability of our beneficiaries (civil society organisations, civic initiatives, non-profit institutions in the field of social and health care, culture and education), not only in the sense of financial support but also in recognizing them as an important and inseparable part of society – recognizing them as those who care for that society.

By reviving and promoting within our society the idea of giving to a good cause, among both profit sector and general population, we hope that our local contribution to development projects and initiatives will really result in an increase in quality of life in Osijek. This kind of care for one’s community should be a shared responsibility, for, as an English author once said, charity begins at home.

From its beginnings Slagalica has been focused on development of local philanthropy, considering that to be one of the key aspects of its future work on the improvement of quality of life in the local community. This year we are launching a fundraising campaign in Osijek in order to support innovative projects and initiatives in our town.

To begin this long journey we first need to look back, what brings us to Osijek’s Philanthropic Timeline, an exhibition returning us to examples from history, to the best of what we had in last 200 years and at the same time giving us an example and an incentive what and how we should be doing at the beginning of this millennium.

The exhibition has been supervised by Mrs. Zlata Živaković Kerže, PhD, member of the Slagalica’s Governing Board and “the most convincing spokesperson of Osijek’s history”.
